I’m not a customer of Bank of America, and I’ve received calls from this number, but they’ve all been disconnected. I tried calling back, but it was transferred to another number, and no one answered.

Just got a call saying they were from BOA and someone tried to open an account in my name (They knew my name) and that they used a transaction from Zelle to put $ into the account and they gave me a number to call to dispute it. I dont have Zelle, I dont have BOA and the number they gave when googled doesn’t show up as associated with zelle. I just stayed on the line to waste their time while I worked.

This is not scam phone number but scammers maybe using it.

Banks, like Bank of America, generally do not call customers asking for sensitive personal information like passwords or social security numbers. If you receive a call from a number claiming to be from Bank of America, but are unsure if it is legitimate, it is best to hang up and call the bank’s customer service number found on their official website or on the back of your bank card.

Do not provide any personal information to the caller, as it may be a phishing scam. It’s always better to be cautious and verify the identity of the caller before giving out any information.

Protect yourself from phishing scams by staying alert to the tactics used by criminals. They impersonate reputable sources to deceive individuals into revealing their personal and financial information such as passwords and credit card numbers. These scams often occur through fake emails or websites made to look like they come from a legitimate source.

This just happened to me. Opted not to get connected automatically to the number for Zelle and then looked it up. Definitely a scam. But used had my cell phone and former address which made me initially think it was real.

I recieved same type call from a Man with accent called to tell me he was calling from Bank of America and someone has opened 2 accounts through a Zelle account ( I dont have BOA or Zelle either) in my name and he asked what Bank I used, I asked him why would I tell you that, he stated so he could cancelt the accounts before I was charged. I did not give him any info. I then asked how i knew he was calling from BOA and he told me to google the number and then call him back. I googled the number while he was still on the phone and told him what I was seeing was that this number was a scam, he stated that I should just call the number back and I would see that it is a BOA number and they would direct the call back to him and he hung up the call. I did not return the call. The number he called from was 1-800-432-1000. I also went onto the DONOTCALL.gov site and reported!

This happened to me twice today. He sounds very convincing but I kept telling him I didn’t have either account and he said they opened it with my cell phone number and kept repeating the last four digits (which of course he had). I told him no financial institution will open an account with a telephone number. I then asked if I could call back Bank of America to verify his existence. He stayed patient and said absolutely, to contact the fraud department. When I asked what information I needed to supply he hung up on me. I could see how someone would fall for this.

I have had someone ask me to help them check there balance like that to and they keep
Saying there account is frozen till they deposit a certain amount in the account yet they have alot of money in that account. The number if you call it comes up Bank of America and you can check balance if you have the information and it will tell you the balance and deposits which tells me if it was frozen there wouldn’t be any of that.plus if there is money in the account why would it be frozen until they make big deposits… I’m pretty sure it’s a scammer

Called me claiming to be from Bank of America, asking if I opened a new account in the last 48 hours. I said I hadn’t. Then he asked me if I authorized 2 transactions via Zelle. Again, I said I hadn’t. He then wanted me to go into my Zelle account and add “cancelation department” as a new contact and then type in a cancelation number. I told him that seemed sketchy, like something a scammer would ask me to do and that if he was from Bank of America Fraud Department, that should be his job to cancel pending transactions. He then said he wasn’t from Bank of America, but from Zelle Fraud Department. Again, I said if there are pending transactions that I didn’t authorize, that should be his job in the Zelle Fraud Department to cancel pending transactions that are unauthorized. He got very frustrated that I was questioning him and hung up.

They hung up immediately when I said I could check directly with Bank of Ameria. But I still called BOFA to make sure. Sure enough, it’s a scam.
